Prompt given: Making History

Humidity was the price of Virginia, with its acres of fresh land that grew far in trade juice, they would not go hungry or lose the hospitality of a southern belle; but that damn thickness in the air could take the most gracious chap and swear him in sweats of a suffocating cravat.
Better to be back in Connecticut, perhaps it lay in the same summer but the company was not as bitter sweet and everything wasn’t so…pleasant.
Klaus could do without it all, the weather, the humble pie, this small town that had yet to advance in the ways of our new world; everything moving with the air, following the never ending cycle. Everything…except her.
Now she had a purpose. A purpose that suited him profoundly; it was simple really, this girl who lived isolated and could hear not would be the key to his success, from what he had been told she was quite adapt in her own way and he was more than delighted to step in the shoes of mentor. His years at Oxford and unique experience rejected could atone for that; they who mocked and waved fat fists would all kneel before him and choke on their brandies soon enough.
Even now, his more than polite escort would shake before his smirk and grasp to take his top hat as he entered the large estate of one Giuseppe Salvatore, his benefactor and a man very desperate for hope.
Now as they sat within the confines of an oak study, they could raise their glasses in mutual benefit and decidedly discuss a deal that was too personal to be business but hardly hand held friendship.
You see Klaus was a professor at the newly funded American School for the Deaf or the ASD as Klaus and the rest of his comrades preferred to call it; after the recent fail and lack in English based education for students who required more support, it had come to the governments attention to give their little asylum a chance and propose a grant. That grant did not come without a ball of yarn however, on the condition that propelled a time frame of just how effective these teachers of foreign occupation could be in their expertise.
Enter Giuseppe Salvatore, father of Stefan Salvatore whom Klaus had attended school with, revealing all about his little sister and youngest child of the Salvatore estate, who got caught in the middle of a gunpowder explosion years before leaving the girl deaf, no longer able to hear the world around her.
According to Stefan she hadn’t spoken since that day and now communicated in the written tongue or particularly with Stefan a series of signs they had both taught themselves in order to keep the sibling connection that Klaus knew all too well strong. Yes Klaus thought; she would do nicely.

You lied to me, you’ve always lied to me! You were not a virgin when you married me. You were not what you seemed! No! I loved you, I loved you, and I love you still!

"Sweetheart, I thought I gave you a resounding ‘no’ to any pictures of me smiling."
"And deprive guests of seeing your cute dimples? Inconceivable. Besides, you look so…peaceful. Sorry, that one’s staying."
"I have a reputation to uphold."
"Seriously? You didn’t seem to care about your reputation walking around Paris with me, in the sight of literally everyone, holding my hand and smiling the ENTIRE time. Nice try."
Klaus groaned, knowing she would never yield on this. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her into a firm side hug. Caroline snuggled closer to him as they looked up at the pictures. “Alright, I suppose one can’t hurt.”
She laughed, bringing her lips to his cheek in a light kiss.
"I see you’ve put up some pictures of our wanderings. And some of my siblings," he said, wrinkling his nose.
Caroline shoved him playfully. “Please, you love them and there was no way I wasn’t going to put up pictures of your family.”
"You’ll regret it later. Kol will get a kick out of it, and then you’ll never hear the end of it." He chuckled, and then noticed a smaller picture of the Eiffel Tower. "Paris was wonderful."
Caroline looked up at him, smiling softly. “Yes, it was.” She chuckled. “But I must say, seeing the Trevi Fountain in Rome for the first time gave me actual chills.” She turned into him, throwing her arms about his neck and closing the distance between them until there was almost none left. “After I threw my coin in, my wish came true, you know.”
"Did it? And what, may I ask, did you wish for?"
"Uh,uh,uh! Can’t tell you. Otherwise it might reverse the magic."
"Would this have to do with a certain diamond ring that I gave you later that evening, by chance?"
She blushed, but her eyes were sparkling. She kissed him then, slowly, passionately, tangling their tongues together in a dance they knew all too well. After what seemed like hours, Caroline broke it, resting her left hand on his shoulder and staring at her engagement ring.
Klaus followed her line of vision, his expression suddenly serious. “It’s not going to disappear, Caroline.”
She looked away from him, laughing faintly and stepping back slightly. “No, it’s not that—I just—”
"Caroline." He caught hold of her chin, gently lifting it to face him. "I love you, and I want you by my side for the rest of eternity." He traced the back of his hand against her cheek, caressing her skin, gaze full of total adoration. "Trust me, sweetheart: I’m not going anywhere."
She nodded, lips turned up in an angelic smile. “I know.”
